Vernon Reid says that the Red Hot Chili Peppers went onstage without even bothering to use the wireless adapters that are usually plugged into instruments. They played the Super Bowl but they didn't actually play their instruments.
Did they really use a pre-recorded tape? Really? The Red Hot Chili Peppers are accomplished enough as a band to make this work; logistics aside, they have the ability to play live at an extremely high level. You may not be a fan but you can't deny their ability to make it work live. Who told them they couldn't?
If you want to talk about hard times and a band being a fraud, look no further if this is true.
I'd be curious to find out who else has done this. If you can't play live at the Super Bowl, don't play the Super Bowl. End of story.
